WHY AREN’T GROUND BEEF PACKAGES EXACTLY ONE POUND?
There is only ONE USDA* facility in Central Oregon (other USDA facilities are hours away over a mtn pass). They have been here for decades and do things their way. We cannot request they weigh each package. We also cannot request any different packaging. These are little sacrifices that we are happy to accept for the welfare of our cattle. We apologize if this may be inconvenient and appreciate your understanding and support as we give each cow the best possible experience under our care.
*Why does USDA matter? It is only legal for us to sell our packaged beef to anyone/where if it has been slaughtered and processed at a USDA facility. Selling “On the Hoof” means that the consumer is buying a share of the living cow and having it slaughtered and processed for themselves. This can be done at any butchery.
