Favorite Fall Books for Toddlers

books_fall.jpg

Books are read every day, all throughout the day in our house. Of course, we have favorites for bedtime, but during the day, we enjoy the many, and I mean many, books on his shelves! As Clancy understands more of the world he is a part of, I collect new stories with each passing season. Some become favorites that are read every day for weeks and then at least once each week until they become popular again.

Others are themed. This spring, I added some fantastic new books to our collection about the thawing and bursting season. We fell into Summer and enjoyed all the classics we already had, but Fall is a distinctive time of year. I’ve always ‘loved fall,’ but I don’t think I have ever experienced, savored, or observed it as I have this year. I truly love this season.

Learning from books is valuable; I cherish all my books and the passages of enlightenment I have read. Authors have indeed written about everything, and illustrators portray those messages in captivating colors and sensical lines. So I scoured the worldwide amazon for the top autumn-themed books to add to our rotating collection of themed books.

Here are the books we received and are enjoying multiple times each day this colorful Fall season!

Llama llama goes and picks out a costume and pumpkin and then goes trick or treating. This is a super quick read, almost too quickly. Still, it is a fun way to introduce the idea of dressing up as something else, which turns out to be a bizarre concept for a two-year-old!

This is a very simple, fast read that captures the adventure of harvest and the joy of pumpkin carving and trick or treats.

Clancy’s favorite book right now is If You Give A Mouse A Cookie. He proclaims, “Book! Cookoe, cooookoe, cookoe!” as he scampers off to grab my childhood copy before reappearing with his large dark eyes begging to hear the story.

When this suggestion came up, it was a no-brainer to add to the seasonal collection.

When buying on Amazon, select a used copy of the book to save money and give new life to a book!

I remembered having a few Berenstain Bear books as a child but didn’t recall much past the members of the family and their home in the tree. I didn’t realize that these were faith stories, but they fit in sweetly with the story being told. Each page has quite a bit of text for a toddler to listen to, but it is easy to summarize and shorten or skip text sections as needed. If you aren’t already in love with the beauty and feeling that Fall brings, this book will do it. Nathaniel and I were both loving the cozy descriptions in Fall; the text captures everything autumn perfectly.

One more Little Blue Truck for our shelf? Heck yes! We all love Little Blue truck, so this book was a no-brainer to add to our collection. Each page has a lift-the-flap which allows encourages Clancy to engage with the book. The text is easy to read and has a fun flow, just like all the other books in this series.

We started out our Jan Brett collection with The Mitten, and now The Turnip has a place on our bookshelf.

The eight pack of jumbo-size crayons fits perfectly in the wide-mouth half pint mason jars.

We were instantly able to engage with this toddler-appropriate coloring book. Each page offers simple pictures that aren’t overwhelming or too stimulating. Prompts on the bottom of each image allow me to guide a conversation about different aspects of Fall or autumn that I never would have thought of. This thick book supplies lots of inspiration for creativity together! As an adult, I really enjoy coloring pictures too.
