Story Shorts: Leaf Go
Welcome to Story Shorts, where I construct an arbitrary piece of varying length and theme that lets me scratch my creative writing itch and allows me to pretend I am an author! I am not one to even dable in poetry. I don't understand flow and proper stucrture, so if you do and want to edit this, be my guest! Enjoy <3
About Leaf Go
This apple tree hasn’t produced any apples to eat but one year of our time here. What we do get to enjoy each year is beautiful creamy blush blossoms each spring and fluttering crispy leaves in the fall. This year heavy frosts left us disappointed on both ends of summer. But we did bask in the glory of its shade, having picnics underneath it many times through the summer!
Nothing says winter like the bare branches of this apple tree. I hated to see those leaves go, and before they could turn pale dirty gold, a cold night zapped them dreary dark.
When life goes my way, I wake up earlier than everyone else, stretching a little before writing three pages. Sitting at the table, we look out onto this tree. I looked up from my writing, and my gaze fell on that tree, and Leaf Go was born!
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, each earthly season also represents a season of our life. We go through all the seasons each year and over the course of our life. So much of life is deciding what is for us and what is not and often what is for us… doesn’t stay for us. There is so much change. So much letting go.
This tree is a reminder that it is better to embrace rather than cling to each day, letting go as we go.
