February Reading List

It was a short month but I still managed to fit in a couple of books plus extra reading for a new commitment I am making for this first quarter of the year. Enjoy taking a peek at my February Reading list, maybe you will find a book to add to your reading list! At the end of the post, I share what my new reading commitment is.

I started the month by finishing another book about long riding, riding horseback more than 1,000 miles, then I turned back to the Anne of Green Gables Series. I started reading the books in the Fall and have fallen in love with the author’s style of writing, especially her character building and the relationship her characters have with and towards nature.

I myself am seeking connection with nature and the earth, as I always do as I wait for Spring to blossom and warmer weather for gardening and strolling. That seems to be an underlying theme in the books I have been choosing to read. I think you will find that theme continued next month aswell!

Another long riding adventure, this one taking place in the 1970’s. John and his horse Gizmo head East from the coast of California to the coast of Virginia. Stories from his adolescence is weaved through his adventure. His descriptions of landscapes and his ability to storytell shine. I could easily reread this book and relive this adventure.

I started the month off reading Anne of Windy Poplars. This book is a collection of Anne’s letters to her fiance as she works at her own school and stays with two widows at Windy Poplars. The letters detail her struggles to win parts of her new community over and her friendships with others she met there. I struggled to get through this book and almost stopped reading the series but as I got further into the book there were some good bits I enjoyed and while there was little plot to the book, I do enjoy her descriptions of scenery and people.

This may be my favorite book in the whole series. This story was rich with characters and community and a plot with twists! Anne experiences much of what life has to offer while she makes a home in her ‘house of dreams’. This was a beautiful book that I could read again very soon and savor my time with because of the characters and the sweet plot.

Five Day Bible Reading

I am not a religious person and I actually know very little of the Bible having never been raised within a religion, church, or firm belief any which way. I’ve felt it important to explore this aspect of spirituality for myself but also so we know how we want to raise our son.

My father-in-law happens to be a pastor and he started a new series that would be a good starting place for me to join. He shared this Five Day Bible Reading plan and I jumped in at week 7, the start of Hebrews.

It has replaced my daytime reading material. I am at least committing to following the reading plan for the first quarter of this year and then I will reassess.

That’s all for this week! What book(s) are you enjoying right now? Comment below!

stay nourished,
